In Thermal Mass Flow Meter Selection, Fox Has the Advantage

Fox Thermal has the only thermal mass flow meter that comes with the award-winning DDC sensor. This rugged system is a digitally operated sensor that speeds processing by interfacing directly with electronics of the flow meter. The innovative digital sensor signal processing offers a technology framework for measuring gas correlations using GAS-SELECTX, a gas selection feature that enables users to select a particular gas composition in the field and press a button from gas menus. This feature also makes it unnecessary to send the flow meter back to the manufacturer when the gas composition changes. Fox is the only supplier to deliver this feature, without risking loss of accuracy.

Another way to configure the gas composition of the meter is by using the FT View app. You can download and install this free and intuitive app on your Desktop in a few minutes. If the flow meter is connected via the regular USB port, the program enables the user to easily customize meter settings to display data charts, run simulations, log data, and measure meter accuracy.

Designing a Combustion Air/Gas Pre‐Mix System for Red-Ray Infrared Process Burners

Infrared Process Burners

Industrial infrared heating applications are carried out with infrared (IR) emitters, either by converting electrical current (based on the resistance of the emitter) or by converting natural gas or propane to IR energy through combustion. The strength of the emitted infrared energy is a function of its material temperature and is inversely correlated with absolute temperature (hotter emitters equal to shorter wavelengths equal to higher infrared energy). Careful consideration must be given to the application load, the target size, IR wavelength and power of the emitter in order to function properly.

Industrial IR heating systems are widely used for a variety of industrial applications. The most common are in these areas; powder coating, drying, drum heating, hardening, preheating, curing, component testing, baking, sterilizing, and melting.

Red-Ray™ is a leading manufacturer and the inventor of gas-fired infrared burners. Pyronics® is a leading brand of ceramic infrared burners. Red-Ray™ and Pyronics® metal and ceramic infrared burners. Both brands are owned by Selas Heat Technology.

Selas Heat Technology publishes a very helpful document titled "Designing a Combustion Air/Gas Pre‐Mix System for Red‐Ray Infrared Process Burners" for technical reference when using Red-Ray™ burners.

White Paper: Efficiency Improvement Opportunities for Fuel-Based Process Heating Systems

Fuel-Based Process Heating SystemsFuel-Based Process Heating System Optimization

This white paper gives an overview of the most common performance improvement opportunities for fuel-based process heating systems. The main goals of the performance optimization are reduction of energy losses and increase of energy transferred to the load.

Performance and efficiency improvement opportunities can be grouped into five categories:
  • Heat generation: discusses the equipment and the fuels used to heat a product.
  • Heat containment: describes methods and materials that can reduce energy loss to the surroundings.
  • Heat transfer: discusses methods of improving heat transferred to the load or charge to reduce energy consumption, increase productivity, and improve quality.
  • Waste heat recovery: identifies sources of energy loss that can be recovered for more useful purposes, and addresses ways to capture additional energy.
  • Enabling technologies: addresses common opportunities to reduce energy losses by improving material handling practices, effectively sequencing and scheduling heating tasks, seeking more efficient process control, and improving the performance of auxiliary systems. Enabling technologies include:
    • Advanced sensors and controls
    • Advanced materials—identifying performance and efficiency benefits available from using advanced materials
    • Auxiliary systems—addressing opportunities in process heating support systems.

Are you looking for VERI-FLAME Burner Controls?

VERI-FLAME
Burner Controls replacement
The Veri-Flame Burner Monitoring System was discontinued by Eclipse in October of 2018. The product controls the start-up sequence and monitors the flame of gas, oil, or combination gas/oil burners. It was a very popular product sold world-wide. Many OEMS adopted it, and there are thousands of installations all over the USA.

As you can imagine, when a product is discontinued, it creates an immediate need a replacement that matches the original as closely as possible. Without a direct, drop-in replacement, engineers and service technicians must search out functionally similar products, and then come up with adapter kits for retrofit - a huge hassle and time consuming ordeal.

Combustion Technology, LLC, a Vancouver, Washington company specializing in process heat, combustion controls and combustion systems, has a solutions for anyone looking for a Veri-Flame replacement.  If you are an OEM trying to support an existing customer base, service tech or end user wanting to avoid a costly and time consuming retrofit, Combustion Technology can help.

Combustion Technology stocks direct replacements for many of the most popular units, including bases and scanners with same or next day shipping. These are not rebuilt or reconditioned. They are new units, manufactured by the same company that built Veri-Flame controllers for Eclipse. All replacement units carry the same agency approvals as the originals.
VERI-FLAME
Burner Controls replacement

Finding your direct replacement is easy. Just find the controller model number located on the back of the plug-in module and contact Combustion Technology for price and delivery. No re-wiring, just plug in the new unit when it arrives. For more information, visit https://combustion-tech.net/veri-flame.

Industrial Source Book: Improving Process Heating System Performance

Improving Process Heating System Performance: A Sourcebook for Industry is a development of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) and the Industrial Heating Equipment Association (IHEA). The AMO and IHEA undertook this project as part of a series of sourcebook publications developed by AMO on energy-consuming industrial systems, and opportunities to improve performance. Other topics in this series include compressed air systems, pumping systems, fan systems, steam systems, and motors and drives.

This Sourcebook outlines opportunities for energy and performance improvements in process heating systems, and is intended to help the reader identify improvement opportunities in their own facilities. This Sourcebook is not a substitute for a rigorous engineering-based assessment and evaluation of the technical and economic potential of any process heating improvement.

The Siemens Combustion Controls SQM5 reversing actuators are used for the positioning of flow control valves, butterfly valves, dampers, or any application requiring rotary motion.

The SQM5  actuators accommodate control input signals of 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 135 Ω, 0 to 10 Vdc, 0 to 20 mA, position proportional and floating control. The available output signals include 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 135 Ω, 0 to 10 Vdc, 0 to 20 mA, and 0 to 1000 Ω. SQM5... actuators are available with up to six internal, easily adjustable switches.

A selection of exchangeable circuit boards provide a variety of functions including auto/manual selector switch, manual forward/reverse toggle switch, zero and span adjustment, parallel or master/slave operation, split range control, input signal override, and selectable electronic linearization.

The SQM5 is engineered for precision. It is particularly well suited for applications requiring a high degree of modulating accuracy and repeatability.
The SQM5 actuator may be mounted in any position. A selection of mounting brackets and shafts provides installation flexibility and allows for the simple replacement of most competitive actuators.

SQM5 actuators are uniquely suited for both industrial and commercial applications. The high level of accuracy permits precise modulating control of industrial process and process heating applications, often significantly enhancing performance and product quality.

In commercial and industrial burner applications requiring high turndown and reliable ignition, the auxiliary switches can be applied to create separate positions for burner ignition and low fire. In dual fuel applications, additional switches can be used to create separate high fire, low fire and ignition positions for each fuel. The economy position switch is used to drive the actuator to the full closed position when the burner is off.
